Concept Bandages
Consulting : Concept Development
Inspection is Infection
A pharmacy approached Sprout Studios with a difficult problem; users want to pull off their bandages occasionally to check how their healing has progressed, but doing so puts them at risk of infection. Checking how they have healed can impede their healing.
Sprout was tasked with creating a range of solutions to this challenge, hoping to create a suite of products that allow users to check how their wounds have healed without having to remove their bandages.
While we produced and carried through a large number of concepts, for brevity I’ve elected to include just the three I felt most connected with.
Polarized / Privacy Screen
A reflective or polarizing coating on a clear bandage obscures easy view of the wound. Cameras with polarizing filters, however, can see through just fine. This allows us to use the Pharmacy App to take photos of the wound through the bandage and track progress
Peek-A-Boo
Clear glass or plastic with a rough surface appears opaque when it’s dry, but a bit of water smooths out the surface, making it transparent. Similarly, a clear bandage with a rough-textured plastic film is opaque when dry, but a few drops of water allow you to check progress whenever you want!
“Choose Your Own”
This one is simple. A clear dressing with a sleeve (think baseball card sleeves) on the top allows the users to insert a card to cover the wound. This can be opaque with licensed characters, or a transparent card with progress indicators so you can see your wound shrink over time!
